Misty’s Story

MIsty Wooten works at the Hope Family Thrift Store

A new year brings changes, and that’s true for ADRN as well. ADRN will be opening its second thrift store in North Austin later this month. Like our East Austin location, this store will change lives in Greater Austin. When disaster survivors come to ADRN for help, they get free clothing, shoes, and goods to […]

The Restoring Grace of Christ

Before the sun came up on November 14, Angelina Rodriguez sensed something wasn’t right. She grabbed her phone to look at the video from the cameras installed outside her family’s mobile home in Lockhart. A heavy fog covered the lens. She looked again. What she thought was fog was smoke! Angelina called out to her […]

Thanksgiving for Disaster Survivors

Thanksgiving Prayer

ADRN Volunteers pray with fire survivor Arely Cruz When most Texans were cooking on Thanksgiving eve, others wondered how they would feed their families. That’s especially true for disaster survivors as they face the immense challenge of overcoming a tragedy. But because of the generosity of the network church Our Savior Lutheran Austin and the Austin […]

The Pucketts Move Back In

This past November, the Pucketts moved back into their renovated, level-floor home. But they got much more than a new home. They got a new family.

“This house was broken. The death of my parents and other things broke us. We just weren’t getting along the way we used to. And we needed repairing, too,” Joey said.

HIS STORY. HIS IMPACT.

On March 21 when the tornadoes barreled through, Paul Hawkin monitored the scene on the TV news. His wife Ella and his 92-year-old mother nervously watched the skies with him, and as they heard the sound of a tornado approaching their Elgin home, they took cover. In God’s mercy, no one was hurt, but the […]

Training for Blue Skies, Too

Thankfully, disasters don’t happen every day. So, what does ADRN’s network of more than 200 churches and volunteers do when winds are calm and skies are blue? They train and prepare to step in when disaster strikes – no matter what form it takes. For most volunteers, the skills they learn in these classes also […]

A Shepherd’s Story

A Shepherd’s Story – 2022 Light of Hope The call to the Austin Fire Department went out in the cold, pre-dawn hours on January 7. A three-alarm fire broke out in the Ventura Apartments in North Austin. Three alarms. More resources to fight the flames. More firefighters to do the job. More people needing help.  […]

48-Hour Challenge: An Astounding Run to Benefit ADRN

When God calls, how far are you willing to go? Two men took this challenge and ran…literally! They put their fitness to the ultimate test for the Lord running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours to raise money for ADRN’s Winter Storm Relief Fund. Travis McCormick and Kory Curtis’s passion for health advocacy […]

Winter Storm Survivor – Levi

You wouldn’t guess from his affable demeanor that Levi has had an especially difficult year. On top of the pandemic, he lost his apartment to flooding during Winter Storm Uri, and just prior to that, he was hit by a drunk driver. He mentions this to make the point to me that while he’s experienced […]
