AUSTIN DISASTER RELIEF NETWORK PREPARES TORNADO SURVIVOR INTAKE CENTERS IN ELGIN, TAYLOR TO PROVIDE RELIEF AND SUPPORT
Austin, Texas, March 28, 2022 – Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) will open a two-day survivor intake center in Elgin next week to offer relief to those impacted by the outbreak of tornadoes on March 21, 2022. While ADRN leaders select a location for the center, volunteers prepare to bring emergency supplies and funds in the form of gift cards as well as teams to meet with survivors and help them take their first steps towards recovery.
“People who have gone through the trauma of losing their home to a tornado need more than just one-time emergency help,” said Executive Director Daniel Geraci. “They need emotional and spiritual care to begin to process the trauma, decide on next steps, and long-term support to recover. The ADRN Survivor Intake Center in Elgin will help with emergency physical needs, of course, but also give tornado survivors a place to find hope and begin to chart a path forward for them and their families.”
In addition to meeting urgent needs such as clothing, supplies, and gift cards, ADRN-trained volunteers will provide emotional and spiritual care through Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). Location details will be available on the non-profit’s website at ADRN.org as soon as they’re confirmed. Survivors seeking ADRN assistance will need to bring a photo id, a copy of a recent utility bill, and photos of the damage to their homes including their residence’s address number.
MULTI-AGENCY RESOURCE CENTER OPENING IN WILLIAMSON COUNTY NEXT WEEK
ADRN will also participate in a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) for tornado survivors at the Williamson County Expo Center next week. The MARC serves as a “one-stop shop” for those who’ve been impacted by the storms to meet with several agencies and organizations offering emergency services, supplies, and long-term recovery support.
The MARC will be open the following dates and times:
• Tuesday, March 29, 10 am to 6 pm
• Wednesday, March 30, 10 am to 6 pm
• Thursday, March 31, 9 am to 3 pm
Survivors seeking ADRN assistance will need to bring a photo id, a copy of a recent utility bill, and photos of the damage to their homes including their residence’s address number.
DONATIONS TO CENTRAL TEXAS TORNADOES RELIEF FUND
ADRN has also launched the Central Texas Tornadoes Disaster Relief Fund to resource both tornado survivors’ short- and long-term needs. Early damage assessments indicate local residents will need at least $1 million in financial support to repair and rebuild their homes in the wake of these devastating storms.
