Direct Survivor Assistance Press Release 3/22/22

AUSTIN DISASTER RELIEF NETWORK PROVIDING SURVIVOR CARE KITS, DIRECT ASSISTANCE THROUGH A MULTI-AGENCY RESOURCE CENTER THIS WEEK

Austin, Texas, March 22, 2022 – As Central Texas residents assess the damage done by yesterday’s outbreak of tornadoes, the Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) will begin offering direct assistance to survivors this week. ADRN leaders say the first order of business is getting essential supplies into the hands of those who’ve lost everything to the storms. The nonprofit organization asks Greater Austin residents to assemble and donate Survivor Care Kits for their neighbors in need.

“Residents in the community of Granger have been particularly hard hit,” said ADRN Executive Director Daniel Geraci. “Many of the homes have been completely destroyed and those families need the basics like toothbrushes, towels, and hygiene items. We need to get these essential items into their hands as soon as possible. Each kit is a lifeline of hope for them and helps them take their first steps towards recovery and rebuilding.”

Anyone who wants to assemble and donate a Survivor Care Kit can download instructions from ADRN’s Disaster Response page at adrn.org/ctxtornadoes. Kits can be customized for men, women, children, or entire families, and include a personal note of encouragement for those who receive them. Donors can drop off completed kits at the Hope Family Thrift Store at 1122 E. 51st Street from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Saturday.

ADRN will also participate in a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) for tornado survivors in Round Rock later this week. Local residents will be able to meet with ADRN trained volunteers as well as connecting with other organizations helping the community including the Red Cross. The MARC opens at the United Heritage Center at Dell Diamond in Round Rock on Thursday and Friday from 10 am – 6pm, and on Saturday from 9 am – 3 pm.

Survivors who attend the MARC can meet with ADRN trained volunteers for emergency needs as well as emotional and spiritual care. To receive ADRN services, homeowners need to bring a photo id, a current utility bill for their home, and a photo of the damage. Residents can also call the ADRN Disaster Survivor Hotline for help and information at 512-806-0800.

ADRN has also launched the Central Texas Tornadoes Disaster Relief Fund to resource both short- and longterm needs for tornado survivors. Visit donate.adrn.org/ctxtornadoes to make a donation. You can stay up-to-date on ADRN’s response to the Central Texas Tornadoes at adrn.org/ctxtornadoes.
