Winter Weather Response Press Release 2/3/22

AUSTIN DISASTER RELIEF NETWORK COORDINATING WITH CITY AND COUNTY OFFICIALS TO HELP GET RESIDENTS OUT OF THE COLD

Austin, Texas, February 3, 2021 – With ice covering the streets in Central Texas and sub-freezing temperatures expected until Saturday, the Austin Disaster Relief Network is working with city and county officials to keep local residents safe and warm. ADRN’s trained and badged volunteers stand ready to support city efforts to transport people to local shelters, as well as help with other needs arising from the winter weather.

“We’re grateful that we’re not experiencing power outages and water problems like we did last year during Winter Storm Uri,” said ADRN Executive Director Daniel Geraci. “But if the situation changes and the city gets overwhelmed by requests for help, we’re ready to respond. We’re in close communication with local officials to support efforts like transportation and staffing shelters and provide emergency goods and supplies. ADRN volunteers will go into action as soon as we’re needed.”

Local residents should call the City of Austin by dialing 3-1-1 if they need help with transportation to or from a shelter during this winter weather. Meanwhile, ADRN has distributed some blankets and about 100 hygiene kits to partner organizations on request.

We will provide updates regarding our developing preparations on our website at ADRN.org.
