AUSTIN DISASTER RELIEF NETWORK MONITORING THE IMPACT OF HURRICANE IAN

Austin, Texas, September 28, 2022 –As Hurricane Ian approaches southwest Florida, the Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) closely monitors reports coming from their partners in the area. The hurricane strengthened significantly overnight with winds reaching 155 mph, and now takes aim at Florida’s coastal communities. ADRN Public Information Officer Kat Cannon says ADRN leaders will watch and wait to see if the local network of churches can help our Florida neighbors impacted by the storm.

“We’re deeply concerned and praying for Florida residents as Hurricane Ian makes landfall later today,” Kat Cannon said. “At this point, we’ll wait until we hear from our contacts in the region that they need our support. As the storm passes through and officials have a chance to make their early assessments, we’ll keep an eye on things and decide how best to respond to requests for help. We haven’t received any requests yet, but that could change in the hours and days to come.”

ADRN serves the five–county region in the Greater Austin Area including Travis, Hays, Bastrop, Caldwell, and Williamson County. When disasters such as Hurricane Ian occur outside of this region, leaders evaluate requests for assistance and respond based on the resources they have on hand. In recent months, ADRN has sent emergency funding and supplies such as Survivor Care Kits to hard–hit areas such as Mayfield, KY and Lake Charles, LA.
