A worldwide pandemic. Civil unrest. The times we’re living in are unprecedented, uncertain, and precarious – you’ve heard all the terms. But disasters don’t stop when pandemics and riots take center stage. Destructive storms continue to wreak havoc on communities. Homes still burn. Floods still displace families. And thanks to the support of people like you, ADRN still responds.
In the midst of running multiple COVID-19 response initiatives and serving those impacted by the deadly tornado that ripped through Onalaska, TX in April, ADRN continues to provide immediate and long-term support to families impacted by disaster right here in Central Texas.
Families like the Gallardo’s, whose Lockhart home and nearly everything in it was destroyed by a violent storm.
Anna Gallardo, a widow raising her 5-year-old adopted twin daughters, her grandbaby, and several older grandchildren, says that in the 20 years she’s lived in her home she’s experienced a number of storms and even a few tornadoes, but nothing like the storm that hit her home last summer.
“That night, we all immediately went downstairs because it was thundering and the wind was blowing so hard it sounded like the roof was going to blow away,” Anna recalled.
As the family huddled downstairs, her grandson ran upstairs to grab a mattress to put over the family in the event of a tornado. But by the time he got upstairs, the roof was gone and water was pouring in.
“He ran downstairs shouting, ‘Grandma, the roof has been taken off,’” she said. “The wind just gusted by so quickly it pulled the roof off.”
The following day, she called ADRN.
“They came down here real quick and helped me out,” Anna said. “I’m a widow, I’m not working, and I had adopted a set of twins. Thankfully ADRN helped me and gave me funds,” she said. “Its been a very, very big blessing. My home is old, and it’s like I’m getting a new home.”
Thanks to the support of people like you, ADRN was able to provide Anna and her family with gift cards, clothing, and supplies from Hope Family Thrift Store. We were also able to purchase the building materials needed for the Gallardos to rebuild their home.
In addition to meeting her financial and physical needs, our Disaster Relief Shepherds walked Anna through the recovery process, encouraging her and praying with her along the way to strengthen her faith and help her recover emotionally.
The road to recovery has been quite a journey, but we’re excited to share that construction on Anna’s home is expected to be completed by the end of June! We’re looking forward to celebrating this momentous event with the Gallardo’s and our community of supporters. None of this would have been possible without your support.
