AUSTIN DISASTER RELIEF NETWORK WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CITY OF AUSTIN AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO RESPOND TO CENTRAL TEXANS IMPACTED BY WINTER WEATHER

Austin, TX, Feb. 16, 2021 – The Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) is working in partnership with the City of Austin and Travis County to coordinate volunteer assistance at three local shelters, including Palmer EventsCenter, Mendez Middle School (5106 Village Square Drive), and Northeast High School (7104 Berkman Drive). As unprecedented winter weather continues to assault the area, ADRN volunteers are preparing cots and warm blankets for Central Texans looking for shelter from the storm.

In addition to assisting the City of Austin with the shelters, other weather-related ADRN-deployments and initiatives since include:

    • Deploying volunteers to assist AISD in packing 1,000 meals to feed families in shelters;
    • Donating pallets of food and water to Community First;
    • Dispatching off-road and 4×4 emergency transportation teams to deliver supplies and emergency crews to critical sites, as needed by the City of Austin and Travis County; and
    • Handing out about 300 hygiene kits containing personal items such as soap, toothbrushes, and deodorant to those impacted by the storm at the Palmer Center Shelter

“We’re doing everything we can to help our neighbors get through this storm,” said Daniel Geraci, ADRN Executive Director. “With additional sleet and snow predicted for our area overnight, we’re gearing up to assist the City of Austin and other organizations however we can for as long as needed.”

ADRN began deploying trained volunteers to warming centers over the weekend, and will continue to provide assistance as long as requested by the City and County.

DONATIONS NEEDED

Monetary donations, in the form of financial funds, are needed at this time to help ADRN provide support to those who’ve experienced weather-related disasters, including floods caused by bursting pipes, fires caused by space heaters and other equipment, and other disaster events. Funds will be distributed in the form of gift cards, emergency housing, emergency transportation and/or supplies needed to meet immediate and long-term needs.
