Donated Guitar Brings Hope After Harvey
August 18, 2018, Rockport, Texas –
ADRN Hurricane Harvey Relief
John Gonzalez played guitar in the New Beginnings Church praise band in Rockport, Texas. The sanctuary was heavily damaged from the impact of Hurricane Harvey. Both of John’s guitars, one electric and one acoustic, were inside the sanctuary at the time and received damage beyond repair.
ADRN developed a partnership with New Beginnings Church in Rockport following Hurricane Harvey when ADRN put into place a Mobile Thrift Store offering clothing, shoes, disaster supplies and more for the community. It was through this relationship and ongoing effort that John’s story surfaced. Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) had recently received a special donated guitar signed by music artist Shania Twain, a Canadian singer and songwriter who has sold over 100 million records, making her the best-selling female artist in country music history. Thomas, an ADRN Disaster Relief Shepherd Coordinator, matched the donated guitar to John’s need.
On Friday, August 18, 2018, Thomas made his way to Rockport from Austin, Texas with the donated guitar. John was overwhelmed with the gift! He immediately tuned the guitar and started playing a hymn. John was grateful. Hope was restored to the praise band within the church and to John’s life.

Bring hope to more survivors like John. Give to ADRN’s ministry as we continue to serve survivors impacted by disaster.
