Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) is partnering with Greater Port Arthur churches, newly formed Port Arthur long-term recovery team, Help I Am Hurting, greater Austin Churches, ABBA, Christ Together Austin, Spirit 105.9, Emmis Austin Radio Broadcasting Company (7 Austin radio stations) and Operation Blessing Int'l to organize a massive clean-up effort in the greater Port Arthur area over three weekends.  Currently, there are over 1,000 homes that still need to be cleaned up (mucked-out).  ADRN is hoping for over a 1,000 volunteers per weekend to make a substantial impact in the community. 

ADRN is working with Operation Blessing International, who was designated by the Mayor of Port Arthur to provide leadership to the clean-up efforts in Port Arthur.  Join the efforts TODAY by signing up for one or more of the following weekends. WEEKEND ONE - CLOSED

Friday, December 1st - Sunday, December 3rd

One (1) shift goes out per day to clean up homes.

  • Short briefing* at 8:30AM (sharp), on the road by 9:00AM
  • Back on the road, headed to housing site by 4:30PM

WEEKEND TWO - CLOSED

Friday, December 8th - Sunday, December 10th

One (1) shift goes out per day to clean up homes.

DETAILS ABOUT PORT ARTHUR

  • Population is 55,000+
  • 3,107 own a home and 76% do not have flood insurance (1,988 households)
  • 4,218 cars destroyed (123 families have full-time jobs but have no transportation)
  • 1,177 need their home mucked out (69 families still live in their home even though it has not been mucked-out and they had up to 4’ of water in their home)
  • 2,285 need their home sprayed for mold
  • 497 households need roof repair/blue tarp

 


FAQ - PORT ARTHUR CLEAN UP TRIP

1. What will we be doing as far as clean up?

  • Tearing out sheetrock from walls
  • Shoveling debris into wheelbarrows to the curb
  • Carrying out damaged furniture (in some cases)

2. How long will we serve each day?

One (1) shift goes out per day to designated homes for clean up. 

  • Short briefing at 8:30AM, on the road by 9:00AM.  Please arrive prior to 8:30AM. We cannot promise that you will deploy if you arrive late for the briefing.
  • Back on the road, headed to housing site by 4:30PM

3. What is provided for the trip?

  • 3 meals provided per day: breakfast before you leave, take a prepared lunch with you, dinner back with the team
  • A place to sleep: over 300 cots available but you might still bring an air mattress as a backup if you have one
  • Hot showers
  • Designated sleeping areas for men and for women
  • Tools, wheelbarrows, gloves, masks, etc

4. What do I need to bring?

  • Jeans, boots, hat, etc
  • Love Port Arthur shirt or ADRN shirt if you have one
  • Sleeping bag, pillow, towel and personal hygiene
  • Air mattress, if you have one (as a backup in case all 300 cots are used)
  • Your own vehicle; you will be responsible to coordinate your own transportation or carpooling

5. Who can volunteer to go?

Anyone at least 18 years of age who has some physical ability. No training is required.

6. Where will I be staying? 

  • A church in Beaumont has been designated for volunteers. More sites may open up as spots are filled. (the location will be provided on the confirmation email)
  • People should not arrive later than 9:30PM at night due to "lights out"

7. What will I receive beforehand?

A volunteer registration form and a Notification email from ADRN with final details and reminders.
